Darul moved from Bangladesh to New York with his family in 2019. As a finance major at Brooklyn College, he watched classmates secure internships while he juggled retail jobs and struggled to understand how to break into the professional world. “I didn’t even have a resume,” he recalls. “As an immigrant, I had no reference point. I didn’t know how to start.” 

That changed when he opened an email from his college promoting StreetWise Partners. “It felt too good to be true; mentors, networking, real career guidance. It was exactly what I needed.” He joined the Spring 2023 Bridge cohort. On day one, he learned about SMART goals, something he had never encountered, and realized he was stepping into a true turning point in his journey.  

During StreetWise’s signature mock interview and speed networking events, Darul discovered that industry professionals weren’t intimidating gatekeepers, but welcoming partners eager to support him. He also valued connecting with other mentees. “It reassured me that I wasn’t alone. My peers were learning just like me.”  

“Mentorship means meeting people where they are,” says Darul. 

His mentor, Barry, Sellside Relationship Manager at Bloomberg, became a transformative force. Barry invited him to the Bloomberg office, shared technical skills, and coached him before every interview. In time, Darul advanced to the final round for a Bloomberg role, an achievement that significantly boosted Darul’s confidence. “That experience shattered my imposter syndrome. I realized I could compete with the top three to five candidates.”

With newfound confidence and clarity, Darul continued interviewing and ultimately landed a full-time role at STRATCO Property Solutions, a clean-energy-focused company where he now works across accounting, operations, and sustainability projects.
