- Trainees are typically in the age range 18-40s
All of our trainees are low-income and are suffering from a lack of education. Other barriers to employment faced by our trainees include:
- Criminal record
- Lack of work history
- Childcare issues, often resulting from being a single parent
- Substance abuse
- English as a second language
- First generation in US
- Living in assisted housing
- Lack of positive role models for encouragement towards career success
All trainee applicants complete an application form on our website which is screened by StreetWise Partners staff. Qualifying candidates are invited to interview, where they meet with two or more experienced StreetWise Partners mentors to discuss their interest in joining the program, and take a short computer test. Only highly motivated individuals, who meet our qualification criteria and who have no other places to turn to for career assistance and advice, are accepted in to the program. Successful applicants are informed over phone a few days after their interview, and unsuccessful applicants are directed to other resources.
