VOLUNTEERING WITH STREETWISE PARTNERS

StreetWise Partners works with over 800 volunteers a year – representing companies from hedge fund, private equity, investment banking, management consulting, technology, media, government, health care and other industries. These emerging leaders help to mentor and empower low-income individuals to overcome their employment barriers, attain quality jobs and achieve economic self-sufficiency.

Volunteers have the option to become a mentor on just volunteer for single events. Information about both opportunities can be found on this page.

One Year Program

MENTORING

Volunteers have an opportunity to become a mentor with us, and work directly with a low-income job seeker for a year, making a sustainable impact on their life and career. The bulk of your time as a mentor will be in the first 3 months, when you will be meeting your trainee every week for 2 hours at our program sites. During this time you will be going through our structured curriculum with your trainee, helping them set career goals, create a resume (or improve an old one), practice writing cover letters, develop skills and confidence for interviews, learn about jobs in different industries, and create and deliver a PowerPoint presentation. At the end of the 3 month Career Ventures program, trainees will produce a Work-Plan outlining their near and midterm goals. You will then continue to work with them on your own schedule (in person or over the phone) to ensure they accomplish their goals in their Work-Plan. During this time there will be in-person meetings (progress reports) once every 3 months that StreetWise Partners will organize.
