Prominent Corporate Leaders Gather to Celebrate Today’s Economic Change Agent: StreetWise Partners

1.11.2008

StreetWise Partners (SWP) and renown leaders from the community will honor graduates from its Adult Career Ventures Program at PricewaterhouseCoopers on Saturday, January 12 at 11:00 a.m.

The national volunteer-driven nonprofit builds skills for work and provides access to employment networks for the unemployed and working poor. At a time when the nation is focused on the primary season’s campaign rhetoric of plans for economic change, SWP is converting possibilities into reality: tomorrow at PricewaterhouseCoopers, 200 corporate volunteers and social responsibility leaders will gather to recognize the achievements of low-income adults in securing new employment and career advancement.

Keynote speakers Gordon J. Campbell, President and Chief Executive Officer at the United Way of New York City, along with Anthony Tassi, Director of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Adult Education, and Roy Weathers, Chief Diversity Officer at PricewaterhouseCoopers, will address graduates who completed a rigorous 15-week job training and mentoring program.

During National Mentoring Month, this event highlights how people-to-people connections help create business value, job opportunities, and social change. “A mentoring relationship is invaluable – millions of talented employees at corporations across this country, and around the world, have the skills and resources to empower the less well-off to realize their employment ambitions,” said Allison Devore, Executive Director of SWP.

Volunteer mentors from companies including Lehman Brothers, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Fox News, Time Warner Inc, Ann Taylor, and Goldman Sachs utilize their knowledge capital and workplace skills to help adults overcome economic and social barriers to employment. These mentors not only develop relationships with low-income community members, lacking significant employment networks, but they also become our country’s future community leaders in the process.
