THE PROGRAM

What is the key to career success? At StreetWise Partners, we believe there are three parts to career success:

1. Skills: having both the technical skills, and the people skills to succeed in the workplace
2. Awareness: knowing what career and educational opportunities are out there for you
3. Networks: knowing the people who can connect you to those opportunities

StreetWise Partners is a fourteen week long program hosted at different corporate locations in New York, Washington, DC, and Jersey City, New Jersey. In New York and Washington, DC, we offer separate Young Adult Programs for individuals between the ages of 18 - 24. SyntaxError

At the beginning of the program, as a participant (or "mentee") you will be matched with one or two business volunteers ("mentors") based on your career interests, backgrounds and personality. Our mentors come from a variety of different industries- banking, marketing, media, entertainment, and much more. They give their time and energy to coaching and mentoring for many different reasons- mostly, they just like to give whatever they can in insight, advice and guidance, to help you achieve your best.

Each week you'll come in for a computer skills class. StreetWise Partners provides skills training in the following applications:

• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft Excel
• Microsoft PowerPoint
• Microsoft Outlook

In addition to Computer Skills training, you'll work one on one with your mentors who will coach you in the following skills over the course of 14 weeks:

• Resumes
• Cover Letters and Thank You Notes
• Job Search Strategies
• Elevator Pitches
• Interview Skills
• Office Etiquette
• Financial Literacy
• ...And more!

Each week, you'll start off by sharing a weekly success. The goal is to help you build your public speaking skills and your confidence. It also gives your fellow mentees and mentors the chance to get to know more about you and your goals. After weekly successes your Program Officers (volunteers who lead groups of mentees and mentors) will lead a discussion on the week's lesson, and then you and your mentor or mentors work together on a specified activity- revising resumes, practicing interview skills, and so forth.

Networking

Our program is also a 14 week long networking opportunity. Each session you'll have the opportunity to work not only with your mentor or mentors, but to introduce yourself with everyone involved in the program- mentees and mentors. If the thought of introducing yourself to strangers makes you nervous, don't worry- our volunteers are trained to coach you on how to do this effectively.

We also have special events in which guest volunteers will come in to meet with you- this is another way we help you expand your professional network. On average, our mentees graduate the program with 10 - 20 new contacts: people they can get in touch with directly for advice and information to help them develop as professionals.
