Peter D. Kiernan is the Chairman of the Board of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
With extensive experience leading numerous philanthropic organizations, Peter took over the role of Chairman of the Reeve Foundation after the untimely and tragic loss of both its celebrity founders. Peter initially joined the Reeve Foundation in 1999, and soon after, was appointed Chair of the Committee on the Board. During his committee tenure, Peter expanded the role and responsibilities of the Board within the Foundation.
In 2004, as Dana Reeve succeeded her husband as Chairman in the wake of his passing, Peter was named Vice Chairman of the Board at Dana’s personal request. Peter accepted the role of Chairman of the Board following a unanimous vote by the Foundation’s distinguished trustees upon Dana’s death in 2006.
Peter had spent almost two decades, primarily as a partner, at Goldman Sachs, where he completed billions of dollars in transactions. Most recently, he was President and Partner of Cyrus Capital, a New York City-based hedge fund, where he still serves as Senior Advisor.
He is Chairman of TechHealth, a home health care company, and of Heliflite Shares, a leading provider in helicopter services and of Kiernan Ventures. He is a Director of Javelin Pharmaceuticals and serves on several company boards including Night Operating Systems, Smart Pack Solutions and Point Judith Venture Capital
For nearly five years, Peter served as Chairman of the Robin Hood Foundation, the leading funder of New York City Charter Schools, where he played a key role Robin Hood’s Library Initiative – building dozens of libraries in New York City’s poorest schools. As Co-Chairman of World Team Sports, his work with disabled war veterans led to his organization’s Emmy Award-winning documentary “Vietnam Long Time Coming” – a bicycle trip spanning 1,200 miles through Vietnam. In 2002, his group organized “The Face of America” – 3000 bicyclists riding from Ground Zero to the Pentagon, each wearing the name of someone lost in the 9/11 tragedy.
Peter also served on the Executive Committee of The New York Center for Charter School Excellence, the boards of Williams College, Darden School, Martin Luther King Jr. Center, and was Chairman of St. Vincent’s Hospital in Westchester and New York City.
Peter received his MBA from the Darden School (University of Virginia) and received a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College. He currently resides in Connecticut with his wife of over 27 years and their four children.
